From the mouth of babes
The kids keep asking me when we can get a dog. I fianally told them that we could get a dog when daddy was working again. Tate filed that tidbit away.
Fast forward to the park this evening.
The kids were over petting some kids dog (they are obsessed with dogs)
Little kid: "So, do you have a dog?"
Tate: "No, my dad doesn't have any money. We can't get one until he starts working again."

I often go walking in meadows of clovers...
So yeah, just posting about mothers day :). What can I say, I think I have lost my zest to blog. Feeling sort of *Meh* lately. But check out what my kiddos (with a little help from dad) did for me on mothers day. I am sure one spoiled mama.
They went all out. Breakfast in bed with everything you can imagine: strawberry filled crepes, bacon sausage, hasbrowns and two glasses of juice (apple and orange). Adorned with a handmade flower from Tate and two candy roses made by Hudson.
And my present from Tate. I cherish these little nuggets of thought from my Tater. My mom used to say that she would rather have us make something for her than buy something. I thought she was just saying that to be nice. I mean who wouldn't want to have stuff bought for them? (I am kind of a princess in that regard). But now that I am a mom, I totally know what she means. It is these little notes, handmade necklaces and gifts made from the heart that mean everything. It melts my heart when Tate comes home from school with a handmade necklace for me, which he proudly presents saying "look mom its purple, your favorite color."
Thanks heavens I am blessed to be a mother.

It's Alive!!
What do you do when your 6 year old tells you he wants a science party?
Well you have a kicking "Scienterrific" party, that's what you do. And you have about 12 seven years do crazy, messy experiments and then send the kids home with goop that could possibly ruin their carpet.
Tate loved every minute of it, so it was totally worth it.
Experiment number 1: exploding coke.
If you haven't ever done this, try it sometime it is a blast. Add 5 mentos to a coke and it explodes up in the air. Luckily I am a really on the ball person and ran to get my camera after they started. You'll just have to imagine a huge fountain of coke and a bunch of seven year olds laughing their guts out.
Experiment number 2: Volcanos (aka:baking soda mixed with vinegar)
This one was definetly the crowd favorite. If you can't tell by Tate's expression. Pretty soon we started mixing food colors and the explosions got bigger and better.

Lastly, my failed attempt at the cake. Can I just say I way overestimate my abilities as a baker. I found a cute "sciency cake" cake and thought, that shouldn't be to hard. Hah! It didn't turn out anything like the picture. I swear next year I am buying a cake.Posted by Megan, Tommy and the kids at 9:13 PM 4 comments

Your Song
I come from a very musically inclined family. Not that any of us can sing, we just do anyway.
My sister recently blogged about how she is always making up songs for things. I think it must be genetic. Growing up we had songs about everything and now I find that my little family is starting to have songs for everything. Tommy and I have "our song" (Can't take my eyes off of you).
The kids all have "thier" song.
Tate - Your song, by Elton John ~ I hope you don't mind that I put down in words how wonderful life is now your in the world.
Hudson - Sugar Sugar by the Archies ~ You are my candy girl and you've got me wanting you(Although Tate and I used to joke that her song was Doin' time by Sublime ~ this was due to the chorus "evil, i've come to tell you that she's evil, most definetly. It was really funny when she was going through her terrible ones and twos)
Harper - Can't help falling in love with you by Lick the Tins (has to be this version from Some kind of Wonderful) ~ Wiseman say only fools rush in, but I can't help falling in love with you.
Some of our made up songs include (when taking a bath, to the tune of work your body by Will Smith)
"wash your body, wash wash your body.
wash your body, wash wash your body.
Slow down girl you've got to clean your body"
or a Rasmussen classic
(when putting on lotion)
lotion, lotion, lotion
lotion is a potion
the potion is in the lotion.
And for those times the kids obey:
Good job Hudson, Good job Hudson, Good job Hudson
You did a good job!
Wow! We are quirky. What are your families quirky traditions?

In the end the party was worth the mess, the planing and the clean up (wow, the clean up!). Tater's love of all things science is just so endearing. Can't wait to see what he comes up with for next year.
